Roturisteytystyöryhmän kuulumiset

Roturisteytystyöryhmä kokoontui 1.7.2026 jatkamaan tärkeää valmistelutyötä rodun tulevaisuuden ja geneettisen monimuotoisuuden turvaamiseksi. Kokouksessa käsiteltiin sekä työryhmän käytännön toimintatapoja että roturisteytysprojektin sisältöihin liittyviä keskeisiä kysymyksiä.

Työryhmä viimeisteli yhteiset toimintamallinsa ja sopi tiedonhallinnan käytännöistä. 

Merkittävä askel otettiin myös työryhmän verkkonäkyvyyden kehittämisessä. Flatti.net-sivuston rakennetta tarkennettiin ja sisältöjä täydennettiin. Sivusto julkaistaan tämän uutiskirjeen yhteydessä, mikä helpottaa työryhmän toiminnan seuraamista sekä tiedon jakamista jäsenistölle.

Kokouksessa käytiin laaja keskustelu rodun terveystilanteesta sekä niistä perusteista, joiden vuoksi roturisteytystä selvitetään. Työryhmä pohti myös, miten vastata avoimesti ja selkeästi kysymykseen: "Mikä on roturisteytyksen tarkoitus?" Tavoitteena on lisätä ymmärrystä aiheesta ja tarjota jäsenistölle sekä kasvattajille mahdollisimman kattavaa tietoa päätöksenteon tueksi.

Työryhmä päätti käynnistää kyselyt sekä kasvattajille että NOME-tuomareille. Kyselyiden avulla halutaan kerätä näkemyksiä rodun nykytilasta, tulevaisuuden haasteista sekä mahdollisista roturisteytyksien vaihtoehdoista. Tuomareiden kokemukset rodunomaisista käyttöominaisuuksista nähdään tärkeänä osana kokonaiskuvan muodostamista.

Keskusteluissa nousivat esiin myös luonteen arvioinnin ja käyttäytymisen mittaamisen mahdollisuudet roturisteytyskoirien osalta. Työryhmä kartoittaa eri testausvaihtoehtoja ja selvittää nykyisten käytäntöjen kehittämismahdollisuuksia yhteistyössä alan asiantuntijoiden kanssa.

Suomen Kennelliiton kanssa käydyn yhteydenpidon perusteella työryhmää kannustettiin tekemään perusteellista taustatyötä, valmistautumaan myös kriittisiin näkemyksiin sekä aloittamaan kasvattajien osallistaminen mahdollisimman varhaisessa vaiheessa. Lisäksi korostettiin kansainvälisen yhteistyön merkitystä sekä sitä, että Kennelliitto vastaa virallisista yhteyksistä rodun kotimaahan.

Työryhmä jatkaa seuraavaksi roturisteytyshakemuksen vaatimuksiin perehtymistä, alustavan projektisuunnitelman rakentamista sekä mahdollisten rotujen kartoittamista. Samalla valmistellaan elokuussa julkaistavaa Jalostus/RoturisteytysExtraa yhteistyössä jalostustoimikunnan ja Flattiviestin toimituskunnan kanssa.

Työryhmän tavoitteena on edetä avoimesti, tietoon perustuen ja rodun pitkän aikavälin hyvinvointi edellä.

Crossbreeding Working Group Update

The Crossbreeding Working Group met on 1 July 2026 to continue its preparatory work aimed at safeguarding the breed’s future and strengthening genetic diversity. The meeting focused on both practical working procedures and key topics related to the potential crossbreeding project.

The group finalized its internal working practices and agreed on document management procedures.

An important milestone was reached in developing the group’s online presence. The structure and content of the Flatti.net website were reviewed and refined. The site will be officially launched alongside the working group’s newsletter, making it easier for members to follow the project and access information.

A substantial part of the meeting focused on the breed’s current health situation and the reasons for exploring crossbreeding as a possible tool for the future. The group discussed how to clearly and openly answer the question: “What is the purpose of crossbreeding?” Increasing understanding and providing reliable information for members, breeders, and other stakeholders remains a key objective.

The working group decided to conduct surveys for both breeders and retriever field trial judges (NOME judges). The purpose is to gather perspectives on the breed’s current status, future challenges, and possible crossbreeding options. Judges’ insights into breed-specific working abilities are considered particularly valuable for the overall assessment.

The group also discussed temperament evaluation and behavioral assessment for future crossbred dogs. Various testing options and potential developments to current practices will be explored in cooperation with relevant experts.

Based on recent discussions with the Finnish Kennel Club, the working group was encouraged to carry out thorough background work, prepare well-founded justifications for its proposals, and engage breeders early in the process. The importance of international cooperation was also highlighted. Official communication with the breed’s country of origin will be handled by the Finnish Kennel Club.

Next, the group will focus on reviewing the requirements of the crossbreeding application process, developing a preliminary project framework, and compiling a list of potential breeds for further evaluation. Preparations are also underway for the August 2026 Breeding/Crossbreeding Special Publication, which will be produced together with the Breeding Committee and the editorial team of Flattiviesti.

The working group remains committed to an open, evidence-based approach that prioritizes the long-term health and welfare of the breed.
