Flattien roturisteytystyöryhmä käynnistyi – tavoitteena suunnitelmallinen selvitysprojekti

Flattien roturisteytystyöryhmä kokoontui ensimmäiseen kick-off -kokoukseensa. Kokous pidettiin hyvässä hengessä, ja sen aikana linjattiin työryhmän toiminnan periaatteet, vastuut sekä tulevat askeleet.

Rotujärjestön hallituksen odotukset projektille käytiin läpi heti kokouksen alussa. Työryhmän tehtävänä on edistää roturisteytykseen liittyvää selvitystyötä suunnitelmallisesti ja avoimesti sekä valmistella Kennelliiton ohjeen mukainen roturisteytyshakemus rotujärjestön yleiskokouksen hyväksyttäväksi. Työryhmään on valittu laaja joukko asiantuntijoita sekä kasvattajia: Terhi Kantanen, Tarja Koistinen, Riitta Koivisto, Kaija Leinonen, Riitta Nikko, Tarja Palosaari, Henna Tuononen sekä Katja Virtanen.

Työryhmän puheenjohtajaksi valittiin Kaija Leinonen ja sihteeriksi Katja Virtanen. Lisäksi Tarja Koistinen nimettiin vastaamaan yhteydenpidosta Suomen Kennelliiton (SKL) suuntaan hyödyntäen olemassa olevia kontaktejaan. 

Työryhmälle perustetaan oma sivu flatti.net-sivustolle. Sivulle kootaan ryhmän jäsenten esittelyt sekä ajankohtainen tieto työskentelystä. Yhteydenotto työryhmään tapahtuu joko sähköpostitse tai sivustolle luotavan lomakkeen kautta. Saapuvista kysymyksistä voidaan koostaa usein kysyttyjen kysymysten (Q&A) osio, jotta tieto on helposti kaikkien saatavilla.

Viestinnän avoimuus nousi keskeiseksi linjaukseksi. Työryhmä tiedottaa toiminnastaan säännöllisesti jokaisen kokouksen jälkeen sekä suomeksi että englanniksi. Pöytäkirjojen pohjalta laaditaan tiiviit uutiset. Näin halutaan huomioida myös kansainvälinen kiinnostus aiheeseen ja varmistaa viestinnän oikeellisuus.

Seuraavaa kokousta varten jäsenet pohtivat omaa rooliaan työryhmässä sekä niitä teemoja, joita haluavat edistää. Tavoitteena on muodostaa alustava suunnitelma projektin rakenteesta, tunnistaa keskeiset tehtävät SKL-yhteistyötä varten sekä käynnistää työryhmän verkkosivun rakentaminen.

Työryhmän ensimmäinen virallinen kokous järjestetään keskiviikkona 1.7.2026. Roturisteytystyöryhmän työ on käynnistynyt määrätietoisesti, ja tulevista etenemisvaiheista tiedotetaan aktiivisesti.

Crossbreeding working group for flatcoated retrievers launched in Finland – Aim is a planned preliminary investigation

The crossbreeding working group of the Finnish Flatcoated Retriever Society held its kick-off meeting on 2nd June 2026. The meeting took place in a positive atmosphere, during which the group outlined its operating principles, responsibilities, and upcoming steps.

At the beginning of the meeting, the expectations of the breed club’s board for the project were reviewed. The task of the working group is to promote investigation related to crossbreeding of flatcoats in a planned and transparent manner and to prepare a crossbreeding application in accordance with the Finnish Kennel Club's (FKC) guidelines to be approved in the breed club’s general meeting. The group consists of experts and breeders: Terhi Kantanen, Tarja Koistinen, Riitta Koivisto, Kaija Leinonen, Riitta Nikko, Tarja Palosaari, Henna Tuononen, and Katja Virtanen.

Kaija Leinonen was elected as Chair of the working group, and Katja Virtanen as Secretary. In addition, Tarja Koistinen was appointed to be responsible for being in contact with the FKC, making use of her existing contacts.

A dedicated page for the working group will be created on the flatti.net website. This page will include introductions of the group members as well as up-to-date information about the work in progress. Contact with the working group will be handled via email or through a form to be created on the website. Incoming questions may be compiled into a frequently asked questions (Q&A) section so that information is easily accessible to everyone.

Transparency in communication was highlighted as a key principle. The working group will provide regular updates after each meeting, both in Finnish and in English. Concise news summaries will be prepared based on the meeting minutes. This approach aims to acknowledge international interest in the topic and ensure the accuracy of communication.

For the next meeting, members will reflect on their individual roles within the group as well as the themes they wish to promote. The goal is to form a preliminary plan for the project structure, identify key tasks related to cooperation with the FKC, and initiate the development of the working group’s webpage.

The next meeting of the working group will be held in early July 2026. The work of the crossbreeding working group has begun with determination, and progress will be communicated actively.
