Kasvattajakysely roturisteytyksistä avattu – näkemyksesi on tärkeä

Sileäkarvaisen noutajan terveyden, elinvoimaisuuden ja geneettisen monimuotoisuuden turvaaminen on yksi rodun tärkeimmistä tulevaisuuden kysymyksistä. Rodussa on tehty pitkäjänteistä terveystyötä vuosikymmenten ajan, mutta haasteita aiheuttavat edelleen muun muassa syöpäalttius, suhteellisen lyhyt elinikä sekä geneettisen monimuotoisuuden kaventuminen.

Yhtenä mahdollisena jalostuksellisena työkaluna on noussut esiin hallitusti toteutettu roturisteytys. Tavoitteena ei ole muuttaa sileäkarvaisen noutajan luonnetta, käyttöominaisuuksia tai rotutyyppiä, vaan selvittää mahdollisuuksia vahvistaa rodun terveyttä ja tuoda jalostukseen lisää geneettistä vaihtelua.

Aihe herättää ymmärrettävästi erilaisia näkemyksiä, ja siksi kasvattajien kokemukset, ajatukset ja näkökulmat ovat erityisen arvokkaita jatkovalmistelun kannalta.

Pyydämme vastaamaan kyselyyn viimeistään 31.7.2026, jotta vastaukset voidaan huomioida seuraavassa kokouksessa. Kysely jää avoimeksi myös tämän jälkeen, mutta myöhemmin saapuvat vastaukset eivät ehdi enää kyseisen kokouksen käsittelyyn.

Breeder Survey on Crossbreeding Now Open – Your Views Matter (info for international followers)

Safeguarding the health, vitality, and genetic diversity of the Flat-Coated Retriever is one of the most important challenges facing the breed’s future. Despite decades of dedicated health work, significant concerns remain, including a high incidence of cancer, relatively short lifespan, and limited genetic diversity within the breed.

As part of ongoing efforts to explore future breeding strategies, carefully planned crossbreeding has been identified as one potential tool. The aim is not to change the breed’s character, working ability, or overall type, but to investigate whether introducing new genetic variation could help support the long-term health and sustainability of the Flat-Coated Retriever.

The topic naturally raises a variety of opinions and perspectives. For that reason, breeders’ experiences, insights, and views are particularly valuable as we evaluate possible future approaches.

We invite all breeders in Finland to participate in the survey and share their thoughts. Responses submitted by 31 July 2026 will be included in the preparation of the next working group meeting. The survey will remain open after that date, but later responses cannot be guaranteed consideration at upcoming meetings.

Together, we can contribute to informed discussion and help secure a healthy future for the breed.
